Joel Eriksson all set for Formula E rookie test
Joel Eriksson is on site in Marrakesh and ready to take part in Sunday’s ABB FIA Formula E rookie test at the Moroccan venue.
Recently announced as official Test and Reserve Driver for the GEOX DRAGON Formula E team, Joel made his first formal appearance for the American squad on Saturday, working in an observational role during the Marrakesh E-Prix.
The race, staged at the same Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan which also plays host to Sunday’s rookie test, was won by DS Techeetah driver António Félix da Costa. GEOX DRAGON’s two drivers, Brendon Hartley and Nico Müller, finished in 19th and 20th place respectively.
Joel will slot into ex-F1 driver Hartley’s car for tomorrow’s test, while Müller’s Penske EV-4 will be on loan to Brazil’s Sergio Sette Camara – incidentally one of Joel’s team-mates from the 2016 FIA F3 European Championship. Sette Camara has spent the last three years racing in Formula 2, and also recently tested an IndyCar.

Sunday’s official rookie test is the only one of its kind in Formula E in 2020, offering drivers a rare opportunity to gain experience in the fast-growing electric racing series.
All 12 teams will run two cars each for a total of 24 drivers, with Joel set to share the track with the likes of reigning Super Formula champion Nick Cassidy (Envision Virgin Racing), W Series winner Jamie Chadwick (Jaguar), rounded Mercedes-Benz EQ duo Daniel Juncadella and Jake Hughes, and F1 driver Charles Leclerc’s younger brother Arthur Leclerc (Venturi Racing).
Two sessions will take place during the day: one between 10.00-13.00 local time, and one from 14.00-17.00.
Updates from the test will be provided at www.fiaformulae.com.
