Joel Eriksson was unable to take the chequered flag in either of this weekend’s two DTM races at Brands Hatch, the Swedish BMW racer suffering another challenging meeting.
Eriksson’s weekend was dictated by technical gremlins, which forced him to retire from Sunday’s concluding race and caused him to sit out Saturday’s Race 1 altogether.
“A really bad weekend,” says Joel Eriksson. “There’s not really a lot more to say. We discovered a problem on the car ahead of the first race and unfortunately didn’t have enough time to fix it, so we had to watch that one from the sidelines. Then today [Sunday], the car simply stopped. There was no warning – it just shut itself off. I think it’s something electrical. It’s tough for all of us, but both myself and the team are working flat out to turn this around and come out stronger on the other side. I am absolutely confident we will.”
The next DTM event takes place at Lausitzring in Germany in two weeks’ time.
