Joel wrapped up a difficult Nürburgring F3 weekend with eighth place in Race 3, sitting on the tail of Maximilian Günther’s Prema Powerteam machine for most of the duration.
From 16th on the grid, Joel repeated his opening lap bravado of Race 2 to immediately sprint into points contention, and then continued to pick off further rivals to slot into eighth a few laps later.
He remained in that position for the rest of the race, glued to the gearbox of Günther’s Dallara F317 but unable to overtake.
On a highly frustrating weekend in the Eifel mountains, Joel has now slipped to 116 points adrift of overall leader (and Race 3 winner) Lando Norris in the standings, retaining third behind Günther.
Comment, Joel:
“This race was very similar to Race 2 this morning. I got a good start, made up ground in the beginning, and then just had to follow in the pace of the guys ahead. I think from 16th on the grid this was again the maximum, but overall this has obviously been a terrible weekend.”
